Client case study: discovering the effects of colour

Client: female, 49
Service: personal colour analysis
Location: Nicky’s office

The client snapshot

This client came to her colour analysis session feeling ready for a change but unsure of where to begin. In her late forties and in a transitional stage of life, she wanted to look more polished and youthful, but felt stuck wearing the same safe colours out of habit.

She described her wardrobe as a mix of neutrals and colours that she had collected over the years, but she often felt unsure whether they actually suited her or not. Getting dressed mostly felt like guesswork, and she wanted more confidence in her choices.

The colour analysis session

During the session, after working through an initial questionnaire, we explored a range of colour drapes to see how different tones interacted with the natural colouring of her skin, eyes, and hair.

As we worked through the process, the differences quickly became clear. Certain shades brightened her complexion, softened fine lines and shadows, and made her eyes appear more alive, while others made her look tired or washed out.

A new understanding of colour

Once we identified her most flattering palette, everything started to make sense. Colours that once felt random suddenly formed a clear and cohesive guide for shopping and styling.

She was given a personalised swatch wallet to take away with her, making it easy to reference her best colours when choosing clothing. What surprised my client the most was how colour knowledge extends beyond clothing. We also discussed how her palette could guide choices in:

  • hair colour
  • makeup shades
  • jewellery (metals)
  • accessories and scarves.

She realised that small adjustments in these areas could make a significant difference to her overall look.

Client comment

“I had no that idea colour could make such a difference. It’s a bit of a revelation and now with my colour swatch on hand, I am clear on what colours to look for.”

The result

By the end of the session, my client felt genuinely excited about using her new-found colour knowledge. What had once felt confusing now felt clear and energising. Instead of guessing, she now had a practical tool and a deeper understanding of what enhances her natural features. She left with renewed confidence, eager to experiment with her palette and bring more vibrancy into her wardrobe and personal style.

Colour analysis gave her more than just a palette – it gave her the confidence to make choices that help her look polished and fresh.
